Ditching work prematurely

Hi all! So I took a bit of time off but headed back to the studio today. I did some line/prep work for a new piece but it didn't make for a very good shot so I thought I'd take the opportunity to talk about an issue many of us deal with: ditching work prematurely.
Why do we do that?
In fact I often tell people I'm teaching - when they are scrunching their noses in disgust at what they've produced: "Don't throw it out! Live with it for awhile. I think some cool things are happening!"
And more often than not what do I do? Yep, toss it or paint over. Today I had to go through some photos and came across a few examples. Here's one of them. Now I can see that there were some interesting things starting to happen, but at the time I was so frustrated that I deep-sixed the thing. Grrr : )
How about you?

Throwback Thursday

Here's a pastel drawing I did from about 12 years ago. It makes me want to do more : )

Ever Constant, Ever Changing

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the blue sky, is by no means waste of time.
~John Lubbock, “Recreation,” The Use of Life, 1894My latest work is finally complete.  I hope you find something in it that you can relate to, or that makes your heart sing a little.
