Uh-oh. Back to the drawing board. The bottom photo (which is how it looked last night) is looking better than what I did today. Hate it when that happens. I've got my work cut out for me tomorrow.

"Donut Stack" and Day 1 of the InkTober Initiative

Someone brought donuts to work so I stole some of the leftovers to paint. In case anyone is interested in donut matters, they are from Tim Hortons. 

And in other creative news I have taken on the InkTober Initiative in which I intend to do a pen sketch each day of the month. I want to thank Crystal Cook for telling me about it : ) It began in 2009 by Mr. Jake Parker as "a challenge to improve my inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year."

Shake it up

The last couple of weeks I was working on multiple paintings to varying degrees of success. In between I kept going back to this one, playing with different concepts, painting a little differently than my norm - experimentation mode as it were : ) So here is the outcome - a whole bunch of 80s energy going on...

Throwback Thursday - Branches in April

I'm not trying to use Throwback Thursdays as a crutch but I've had limited studio time this week and the painting I'm working on has been a toughie! So here is one of my favourite paintings. I love this one because it began as an (unsuccessful) landscape and ended up taking on a life of its own. As I painted over my previous work I began to see it emerge as an abstract. At this point I followed my intuition and just thought about form, movement and colour. It taught me so much.
