Drinking Stars

I was listening to a program on the origins of champagne and heard that upon discovering champagne, French Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon exclaimed:
Come quickly, I am drinking the stars!"
I looked it up and saw that apparently it's a myth. No matter. It's a lovely image whomever wrote it!
Dancing. Champagne. Laughter. Romance.

#tbt painting and "Big Eyes" the movie

Dawn, 12"x12", acrylic on canvas, collection of the artist
Hey folks! So I am right out of canvasses and need to stock up on supplies but in the meantime I thought I'd post a favourite of mine for Throwback Thursday. It is called "Dawn."
Also, sometimes I find myself posting random tidbits on my Facebook page (Kim Rempel Art) and realize I have not posted them on my blog. Here is something I posted recently that I wanted to share. Last week we saw the movie "Big Eyes" starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz. It was really very good. I've attached the trailer in case you want to check it out. Do any of you remember the paintings from the 50s and 60s of children with dark, oversized eyes? Like this:
Well they were painted by artist Walter Keane...or so everybody thought! It came to be realized that the paintings were the work of Keane's wife, Margaret and "Big Eyes" chronicles this fascinating tale. This movie has wide appeal - it's definitely not a flick that only artists will enjoy. You can watch the trailer here. Let me know what you think!

"Secret Garden" by Canadian abstract painter Kim Rempel

This is my largest work to date: 3'x6'. I see many more large works in my future : ) I'm not going to lie - it was a massive struggle working out the space, but in the end it came together.
