"Release" + the Toronto Outdoor Art Expo!

In four short days I will be setting up at the Toronto Outdoor Art Expo. The TOAE is the largest outdoor art show in Canada and has been running for 55 years! There is a lot to see and do. Come and shop for original art! The show runs from Friday July 14th to Sunday July 16th at Nathan Phillips Square and has free admission. 319 artists have tents and will be showing their work. Feeling parched? No problem! Henderson Brewing Co. will be on hand at the TOAE Beer Garden. I will be at Booth 137, rimming the Plaza. Stop in and say hello!
Below is one of the new works I will be showing. "Release", 36"x48", acrylic on wood.

"Orchard" and "Evening in Paris"

Orchard / 24"x24" / acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.
When I was a kid, my grandma's house had a plum orchard bordering one side of her house. I remember one fun evening with my brother and cousins running around in the orchard picking up discarded and rotting plums and putting them in cups and mashing them up with mud and water. We had so much fun.

Evening in Paris / 36"x60" / acrylic on wood.
This is the last in a series echoing memories of my grandmother. When I was young I remember absolutely adoring a bottle of Evening in Paris perfume in her bedroom. It is said to be one of the world's most popular perfumes in the 1930s. It came in a cobalt blue bottle with a gold tone lid. It was probably that blue that had me mesmerized. 😘 Does anyone remember it?

"Floating Rose"

Floating Rose / 24"x24" / acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.
About this painting: My grandma was a gardener and in summer when her roses were blooming she would float them in a glass bowl on the centre of her table. It was one of those things I would love to stare and stare at. And inhale. Such a nice memory :)

"Porch Swing" and "Summertime"

Porch Swing / 48"x60" / acrylic on wood panel
Summertime / 20x20" / acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

I'm really excited about the way this body of work for the Toronto Outdoor Art Expo (July 14-16) is shaping up. The paintings are loosely based on memories of summer evenings at my Grandmother's house.
The top painting is "Porch Swing." While she didn't have a porch swing per se, she had a garden glider swing where the seats faced each other. I loved it! Gliding back and forth, taking in the evening. A time to think about the day or chat with my cousins :)
The bottom painting is "Summertime." My grandma had raspberry, gooseberry and current bushes. After supper we were often told to go pick a bowl of raspberries and then we ate them with sugar and cream. Mmm. The life.
Summertime, and the livin' is easy...

New Blog Update

Yes. New! I was shocked to go to my blog and see my last update was over two months ago. Yikes!
I used to be so faithful. I must say I find it so much easier to post to Instagram and Facebook that I have neglected what started it all - my dear blog! (both can be found at Kim Rempel Art)

So I have collected the updates on the other two platforms and will post them over this week on my blog. Thank for for continuing to follow after all these years!

First off: I just marked 8 years of blogging! I credit daily painting with bringing me into the online art world and blogging. When I began in 2009 I was hardcore faithful. After a couple of years I moved into painting larger abstracts and got away from daily posts but I ma working harder than ever at my craft and love where the journey has taken me.

From April 11th:

"A New Day" / 36"x36" / acrylic on wood / $1400. I'll be bringing this painting to The Post Office, Shannon Passero Gallery tomorrow in time for the opening Thursday night. For me, tree paintings are good for the soul 😍. Space to breathe and dream. Opening is April 13th, 5-8pm, 18 Front St. N., Downtown Thorold.

From April 12th:
Opening tomorrow night! Shannon Passero / The Post Office Gallery. 18 Front St. N. Downtown Thorold. Thursday, April 13th, 5-8pm. 20 landscape paintings. Refreshments will be served. I'd love to see some friendly faces! 😍 Also, for those who love shopping at SP, receive 15% discount at retail store (opening night only).

More updates tomorrow :)

Last night—I cannot know which way it came
Or what star-way it went—
There was a little dream without a name
That left my soul content...

Balancing Act

Balancing Act, 36"x36", acrylic on wood, $1400. Hello folks! Hope the New Year is opening well with everyone. How are you feeling heading into 2017? 2016 was a challenge in terms of painting time and I am looking forward to resuming regular studio hours. Some years, it's just the way it goes. Maybe I was thinking about this when I chose the title for this piece. :)
