Meet Clyde! It was so much fun to paint this lovely horse. I haven't done many animals, but I think I'm going to have to correct that! 6" x 6" / oil on panel / $75
I picked these up on the weekend: ghost salt and pepper shakers. And they hug! How cute is that? Okay - not everyone's cup of tea, but I love 'em. I also got this toothpick holder. Too funny. Every time I walk by it it makes me laugh. There were other funny items in this kitchen shop but I don't want my kitchen to look too weird (or scare anyone : ).
Some delicious, crisp radishes from the fruit and veggie stand down the road. Yum! My Dad grew up eating radish sandwiches: bread, butter, salt and thinly sliced radishes. When he first told me to try it I thought it sounded awful, but really, they are delicious!! Try it!
Hmm...been feeling a bit of a painting struggle the past few days. I hate it when that happens. I (think!) I've learned over this past year that this comes and goes so not to get too freaked out. But it's still bothersome when you're going through it, yes?
Isn't this a beautiful vessel? A dear friend gave this to our family and I just love using it. I remember the last time I used it was with my girlfriends. We sat out in the screen porch, brewed the tea, lit the candle underneath and had lots of good conversation and laughter. The night grew dark, and the candle flickered and made the tea glow ; ) And it just tastes better that way!
A friend brought this over to me the other morning - she thought I might like to paint it. It's been a while since I did something so decadent and yummy. I had it in the fridge with "DO NOT EAT" scribbled across the box. People were eyeing it up but being very good about it ; ) so afterward, I divvied it up and shared like a good Mom should. lol. Thanks J!
From nostalgic antique ducks to kickin' zombie stompers ; ) Starr (who is a fellow artist blogger and does really great work) sent me a picture of these awesome shoes - and SHE HAS A PAIR! How cool are they?! You really should check out her Victorian praying mantis. Anyway - I digress... but we share a love of quirky things and (I'm assuming here) Tim Burton. And she thought I might like to paint these. Okay - I thought the duck was challenging! lol
There is a lot of sentiment behind this little duck. A client asked if I would paint this porcelain duck that had belonged to her Grandmother. She loved it as a child and in time it was passed down to her. It's used as a doorstop and it has had a lot of love over the years. She now has her own granddaughter who has developed a special place in her heart for this little guy. It has seen better days, and M. thought it would be really nice to have a painting of it to preserve its memory. I had so much fun painting it, I did two : ) I'll post the second tomorrow.
I really had fun with this one - and these ones are very comfortable ; )
...or trail. A hiking boot. This boot is only a week old - hence its good condition. I remember back in art college in object drawing class we had to do a pair or old work boots. I think it was one of my favourite drawings from my years in school. Boots have a lot of character, especially as they get worn in and comfortable.
It seems that shoes are becoming my painting "comfort food". When I'm feeling a little scattered or unsure of what to paint, I just dive in and search for a shoe! Funny. Anyway, this is a knotted summer sandal. Looks more comfortable than it is. They're mostly relegated to the back of the closet.
I painted this last week in the evening. Directly behind me there was traffic and it was kind of noisy, a fellow painter had been involved in a collision a few minutes before I arrived (everyone was okay thank goodness) and it was hot and humid. I was feeling unsettled but finally I settled in and focused on the calm beauty in front of me. And this was the result. Isn't summer grand?
