"Impetus" International Women Celebrate!
The holidays have really been great - a lot of time relaxing with my family and friends but it has taken a toll on my usual work schedule ; ) So today I thought I'd post my offering for International Women Celebrate!, a show celebrating the centenary of International Women's Day at AyrSpace in Ayr, Ontario. The story behind this painting is that I started thinking about how International Women's Day began. And then wondering how all great social movements begin. It occurred to me that most likely things started in kitchens: people being pissed off over a cup of coffee. A hundred years later people are still gathering over tea and coffee discussing, celebrating and arguing issues of the day.

Oh I love the sheen on those cups! They remind me of my great-grandmother's china.... beautiful :)
Very nice and I love the blue color with the soft whites and grays. Makes me want to go have coffee!
kim, this is just wonderful. I love the narrative as well, just beautifully done.
Beautifully executed Kim. This is just incredible! And I'm with Suzanne, I love the narrative too. I think this is one of my favorites of yours. :)
Great post Kim.. and beautiful painting!
Lovely, Kim! And perfect for International Women Celebrate! Well done!
Kim,
So right about the beginning of movements...really like those shadows under the cups and saucers. Love all the subtle colors you have going in the toned cups.
I was trying to analyze what appeals to me so much about this painting. I like the high key palette. The pale colors are very serene, with the orange flowers giving it drama. I also like your style in this painting. The brown outlines of the items in your set up give it a graphic quality. Very nice!
bello e delicato!
ciao Graziano
So serene and beautifully painted.
Excellent composition. I love the zig zaggy movement leading to the wonderful little vase and flower at the back (which would also be a nice composition as their own little painting). Also love the color scheme. This will show up on the top 10 of 2011, I bet!
I love the reason behind your painting. And I really like the painting itself too. I think the splash of orange in the flowers is lovely :0D
Beautiful piece!
Your paintings are lovely, I especially like your shoe paintings! What a great idea to make a top 10 of your fav paintings, I agree, it's a good idea to study what went right. You must have had a hard time only choosing 10!
