"Calla" by Kim Rempel, Canada, daily painters - SOLD

These are two gifts I received today. The first is a yellow calla lily from my mother-in-law. Isn't it pretty? A very lovely, uncommon colour. She had dropped it off at my studio just as I was arriving to paint - so there was my subject! A bit of a challenge with the colour shifts but I started squinting like mad and marched forward ; )
The second was from my sister. She and my brother-in-law just came home from a European holiday and she bought two of these for me in Venice. It is a Murano glass-handled paintbrush. I decided to post it on my blog because I think it is a thing of beauty, and extra-fitting being a tool of the trade and all. There is gold leaf mixed in the glass which creates a wonderful glint although it doesn't show well on camera. It's so pretty I'm scared to paint with it! But then wouldn't that be like having candles in your house that you never burn, or keeping plastic around a sofa? LOL. Hmm. I think I will have to paint with one of them at least a few times, clean it really well and then just keep them somewhere I can admire them. Thank you!
6" x 6" / oil on panel / SOLD

Thanks Sparrowhawk. No, I've never painted on denim. Have you? Or did you mean this piece? Hmm. This is on RayMar's archival panels. Really nice to work on.

I want one of those paintbrushes! So pretty. Love the Calla Lily, too.

Wow - now that's a brush. I'd be scared to paint with it too! I'm completely guilty of the candle thing, to the point where I've stopped buying them because I'll never burn them.

I love the soft silhouette of the calla lily - it's very graceful looking. Those colors make my eyes happy!

No I think I agree that if a gift of a brush is given than a brush it is and it should be used to be creative. Its use will only enhance its beauty.

Beautiful painting, Kim! The greens and yellows are so beautiful with the reds and pinks. And you captured that wonderful, sensual look of the lilly.

I agree with Ralph about the beautiful paintbrush given to you. The use will not only increase its beauty, but increase thos memories attached to it. :-)

Your yellow and pink toned calla has some lovely variation of colour... and your brush so special... not sure I could use it either. But, as you say, maybe once... or twice...on special occasions, like the good china or silverware.
