"Zinnia burst" by Kim Rempel, daily painter, Canada

Okay, here is the third zinnia painting. For this one I tried to forget the act of replicating the zinnias as they appeared, but rather the emotional response I was getting from the flowers. I don't mean for that to sound dippy (!), but I wanted to abstract them a bit and just convey the joy of them. So I began painting quickly and intuitively. I'll do a couple more paintings and then I want feedback from all of you as to which pieces you're drawn to (and why?). Thanks in advance : )
6"x6" / oil on panel / $75

Ooh I like those!! Very happy and cheerful looking, and lovely fresh brushstrokes! :)

Dippy? *snort* that's SO funny :) You're not dippy at all, I say crazy stuff like that all the time!! And I did not mean that you sounded crazy just then, just that. . . I think I'll stop talking right now :)

Looking back at the past three days, I would say that I'm drawn to this one the most. I think it's the close up perspective and the contrast between the bright vibrant colors of the flowers and the sky blue background that I really like. But I also love the stroke marks in the one from Saturday and the fact that you can see the stems through the vase! What fun texture! Hope that helps!

I like the abstract quality of this painting! The colors are vivid and I can feel the energy in the painting. Well done!

These are gorgeous Kim! Zinnias would have to be among my favourite flowers to paint. I find the underside of the petals an interesting contrast and also the stamens - how they open up into separate little flowers ... again contrasted with the darker almost maroon centers.
Does that sound as if I'm "in love" - well I think I am - with them! :)
