Japan I - Fracture and flood

The posts the next few days will be different compared to what I usually paint/post on my blog. I've been deeply moved by the disasters in Japan and wanted to respond with my painting. This is new ground for me so bear with me as I jump in and explore my way around this. I painted three today. They just came out. I had images and feelings in my head from the news the past 24 hours. One video bit that really struck me was of a bunch of white vehicles and blue containers being swept away and then all the debris and buildings, flood waters etc... The human toll and devastation is horrific. My heart goes out to you Japan.

Kim, this really caught my eye on my "dashboard". It is interesting, dramatic and thought provoking. I think it is wonderful that you are responding to your emotions toward this catastrophe. You are painting your feelings and emotions. You are expressing with paint what your words can't say. My hat goes off to you.

Kim, I can't wait to see more. It truly is a sad disaster. I have family there, they live in Osaka now, but they lived in Sendai for 3 years. It really is so sad. I'm glad you are painting about it.

Hi Kim,

We are all feeling this. In class yesterday we watched that wave. You could see cars on a bridge and the wave coming, and knew the people could not get out of there. Your painting is beautiful and sad.

I KNOW. I feel so helpless.
But this is beautiful in it's horror. I get it, right away.

How can there be such beauty in something so awful? It messes with my head. I think it's great that you're doing this, and I look forward to seeing more. What would you think of selling them and donating a percent of the proceeds to the rescue mission in Japan? It seems to complete the circle somehow. Just an idea. Maybe we could even get a bunch of artists to do it.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing.

This kind of expression should have a wider viewership. Maybe get a group of paintings and put them on You Tube or something. It's a combination of reporting and leaving a lasting image of the report.
