"Sanctuary"

Done! This piece has been painted for a show called On the Rock - Merging Art and Ecology taking place in March at the Carnegie Gallery in Dundas, Ontario.
It is 24"x36" on gallery wrapped canvas and is acrylic.

Work in progress

At the outset you may not see a lot of changes from the last post but I've added a bunch of background branches and twigs as well as a bunch of texture on the forest floor. Next steps: refining tree trunks (value/colour/texture), defining branches on the ground and then working with the sky. I'm pretty happy with the way it's coming together!

Industrial view

This is a view from my studio which is in an industrial section of town - and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! A bright blue sky, a high of +3, and sunshine!! My heart is full of warmth and happiness today - still feeling the glow from Vancouver. So many inspiring moments that brought me to tears...and what a hockey game!! : )

Troy Field

Today was a P.A. day, so I didn't have a chance to get out and paint. In lieu of that I am posting a piece from my website that I painted a number of years ago. It's a favourite of mine. I like the looser feel, that I didn't spell everything out, and the movement throughout the piece. It brings me peace : )

Unfinished: Clark Property

Today I was painting plein air and surrounded in beauty. It had warmed up a bit from the chilly 7˚C in the morning but was windy. My easel and canvas kept blowing over >: ( The light conditions were changing like mad as the clouds kept covering the sun. But it was a good day. Here is the piece so far. Unfortunately I wasn't able to complete it - the foreground still needs to be developed. Right now as you can see it is just a dark mass. But I think it's headed in the right direction!

Queen Anne's Lace in September - SOLD

I was with some old friends this weekend up in Huntsville. When we were out hiking we stopped to admire (among other things) Queen Anne's Lace - wild carrot - with it's full, rich scented root. Right now the fields are sprinkled with them, as well as wild yellow snapdragons, purple clover and goldenrod. Really quite beautiful. I love this time of year. Additional note: a few people have asked if I did this from memory or a photo. Nope! Not that skilled ; ) I went driving around here at home and found this field not far from my house.

Field and sky

MINI It's a pretty morning here. Green grass and a nice blue sky. To be honest, I began the morning painting candy and everything was looking great until I screwed up the shadows on the foil wrapper. Why didn't I just leave well enough alone?! : ) Oh well, I turned my attention out the window and ta-da (!) here's the result. Across the street

MINI A struggle today. I'm really tired and it's just not coming. Today's painting is a view across the street. The sunlight was good and strong this morning, casting nice shadows across the lawn. June field

I painted two pieces today but I'm not quite done the second one so I will work on it tomorrow and then post it. This one is of a field down my road. I drove all around town looking for something to paint this morning and ended up back at home for my inspiration : ) It was a beautiful morning - the colours were rich. When I got home tonight from painting, I had a lovely email from Elizabeth Fraser.
