Work in progress

At the outset you may not see a lot of changes from the last post but I've added a bunch of background branches and twigs as well as a bunch of texture on the forest floor. Next steps: refining tree trunks (value/colour/texture), defining branches on the ground and then working with the sky. I'm pretty happy with the way it's coming together!

Shadowland - SOLD

I did this from a photo I took last winter  when we were on a hike. It was late afternoon and the sun was casting the most lovely shadows across the snow.

Plein air workshop at The Good Earth

Friday was a plein air painting day at The Good Earth (Beamsville, Ontario) Eating, drinking, and painting! We had a full class of 8 and everyone produced great work. The flower beds were in full bloom, the vineyards leafy, and even the food was a work of art (photo below). Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the experience. I really enjoyed spending the day with you!
Refuelling with a delicious lunch. And there was lavender creme brulee with blackberries on the side for dessert. Yum!
Below is the gorgeous work - that they gave me permission to post - that everyone did (well, minus two who had to leave early). Fabulous!

Wallace Mountain, Kluane, Yukon

Sundays I take the day off and post a painting from my website. I posted this on a previous Sunday but it was almost a year ago when I first began my blog, so only a few people would have seen it ; ) This was painted on our trip to the Yukon. We had so much fun. Three weeks of camping and years worth of memories. And I discovered I could paint mountains endlessly. Unfortunately we don't have them around here so I have to wait till another holiday. But I love painting the deep crevices and rolling formations.

Alstroemeria - SOLD

A stem of alstroemeria in a shot glass. These were richly-coloured and fun to paint. I took a picture at the blocking in stage just to show process. I enjoy seeing the path of other people's work so thought I might start showing some stages in mine. Happy Tuesday.

Gossip at the races

Doesn't it seem like she'd be at the races? Or maybe a summer picnic, watching a 3-legged race. And more lemonade, cookies and ice-cream. She's a little skeptical about what she's just heard...

Guinness

I've decided to do a few paintings for St. Patrick's Day. This little toucan was a gift from my nephew who lived in Ireland for a year - I've painted him before. It is part of a salt & pepper shaker set. The toucan was used in advertising for the company for many years, debuting in 1935.

Caesar - SOLD

Artist/Blogger Kelley MacDonald posted an invitation a while back to paint your favourite drink, and she would post them as an online birthday cocktail party for herself. Fun! So I painted a Caesar. Definitely one of my favourite drinks. I didn't have a proper glass for the Caesar so I used a Mason jar. I think I've had them served like that before - although in the smaller size jars - okay - one this size is to drink with friends ; ) For those of you unfamiliar with Caesars, it is a mixture of Clamato juice, vodka, worcestershire sauce, and tabasco. Spicy. It's served on ice (didn't have any at the studio) and must have a crunchy celery stick and usually has a lime. Yum.
