Okay - here's the finished painting. I absolutely struggled with this one. It's funny. I think abstracts are perceived to be easy... you know, the whole "my kid could do that!" thing. But I must say, it is a challenge to make your spaces interesting and to have depth and harmony and tension. Don't get me wrong: it is also a challenge to paint representationally with your own vision and courage. Perhaps it's that I'm exploring new mental muscles. In the beginning, the first couple of paintings just flowed out of me, but after that initial flush I've had to really crack down! Like, hard! But I love it ; )
This is a large painting - 36" square. Below are a few details.

Love this!!
I'm so proud of you! Really! These abstracts are amazing and this one ended up in a really great place! There is nothing easy about it and good for you for stretching those muscles!
Hugs to you!

Well, I'm one of those who doesn't always lean towards abstracts, but there are the few that really catch my attention and make me feel cheerful. Maybe it's the colour used, I'm not sure - Anyway, I really like yours and would most happily have it hanging on my wall! :0)
I also love the finished painting, Kim.
Lush, colorful, elegant.
This painting was well worth the struggle, it's gorgeous. I love it too!
Super work Kim. You can be proud of yourself. Big time.

I know what you mean when everyone thinks "so easy, a kid can do that".....that to me is a whole lot of it, ....be spontaneous like a child but hell, it is HARD work trying to "make it look simple, free flowing, child like, interesting, keeping the eye traveling"....I love this new work of yours.....It is "todays art" for me. I love "following" what you are up to.
OMG, it's sooo gorgeous! I'm very inspired by abstract art but I don't think I'm there yet. Awesome!
Beautiful!
Hi Kim, I have just discovered your blog, and had a look around, my goodness i just love your paintings! I have bookmarked it and will be back for more visits. love your work.
I love the painting and the close ups! You are right, it is so hard to create interest balance, all those fascinating elements.Excellent!
Gorgeous, Kim! I have been doing a few abstracts too, and I relate to what you are saying.....so difficult! You did a great job on this one.
