Candy
This is a second painting of my shiny, colourful candy. I looked for some quotes online about candy and this one made me laugh. I don't know this book, but perhaps I'll have to check it out.
“Of course." He picked up the brown bag of candy on the table. "What's your..." He trailed off as he weighed the bag in his hands. "Didn't I give you three pounds of candy?"
She smiled impishly.
"You ate half the bag!"
"Was I supposed to save it?"
She smiled impishly.
"You ate half the bag!"
"Was I supposed to save it?"
"I would have liked some!"
"You never told me that."
"Because I didn't expect you to consume all of it before breakfast!"
She snatched the bag from him and put it on the table. "Well, that just shows poor judgement on your part, doesn't it?”

Shiny Candy
Now this was a lot of fun. A tumble of shiny candy. Do you remember how happy seeing something like this made you when you were a kid?

The simple pleasures
The simple pleasures can make life so sweet, don't you think? This cupcake was filled with lemon curd and was super-delicious : ) I purchased it at The Watering Can.

Lemon Tart
I thought the three pastries from yesterday were so lovely they each needed their own painting. So this is a lemon tart topped with meringue and a thin slice of dehydrated pineapple, capped with a plump blueberry. The pineapple cut and dried this way resembles a beautiful flower. I love it and it tasted delicious!

Work in progress
Hi everyone. This is my next piece in the works. Still a little garish at this point but it will take many turns. Tomorrow I have to start painting some small daily works again. I have the Christmas Handmade Market coming up in a month and I need work! Yikes! I also got a lovely commission to be completed in the next couple of weeks so...in the next month, you'll know where to find me!
By the way, Tuesday I took one more trip up to the Art Gallery of Toronto to see the Ai Weiwei and David Bowie exhibits (Yes. Two very different exhibits). And this time I pulled my kids from school so they could experience it too. They were all moved - well, the Weiwei exhibit does that to you. There is a documentary on him right now on Netflix - Never Sorry. If you get the chance, watch it!

Random...
Taking random shots of my studio today. Anyone need some art for their walls? If you see something you like or want some information on let me know and I'll get back to you asap! By the way, that mid-section of a cedar tree (red and purple painting) is the middle piece of a triptych. It would be very striking if someone has a tall wall to hang it!

Ghost Story - SOLD
Ghost Story / 20"x20" / acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas
To see more of my abstract work, please see my page at Saatchi.
Last week someone asked me what "gallery wrapped" canvas was. I took this photo at my studio today to show everyone who is wondering the same thing. So the thinner canvas on the left is a standard stretcher frame and the thick one on the right is a "gallery wrapped" canvas.

Now on Saatchi! +The heart's a strongbox
Painting is just another way of keeping a diary. ~Pablo Picasso
I am very excited to announce that my work is now on Saatchi Online. Please, please check it out!

And if you have any friends who love art or are looking to buy, I would be grateful if you shared!
Here is my latest painting, "The heart's a strongbox". I know abstract work isn't everyone's cup of tea but I appreciate your comments. It's something I feel so excited about. I actually get a rush when I'm in front of my easel, applying paint. And that's a great thing to feel.

New Work
This is my latest piece. It is large: 24"x36" I believe (forgot to measure ; ). Title to come. I really enjoyed building the layers, finding rhythms, laying down colour, scrubbing...all of it. Below is a detail. Oh - and Happy September! Hope everyone's well and enjoying fresh starts. Cheers.

Work in progress + retooling
Detail, work in progress
Hello! So I've had a bit of a break lately - not vacation, just a lot of thinking and decision-making into what direction to take things. Paths. Retooling. FOCUSING. I'm going to be putting the bulk of my energy into abstract painting. To keep my painting muscles limber I'll be doing a few other things along the way, but primarily abstract it will be.This is a detail of a piece I'm working on currently (my favourite part - the part that's working! lol).
