Day Three - September 2nd. This was a tree on my campsite. I was surrounded with trees - it was good and private that way, but this one caught my eye so I wanted to highlight it. But - and this is my sad lack of tree knowledge coming through - I don't know what it was! Maybe if I describe it someone can help me out? It was coniferous and had short needles - but is that a fir? A spruce? If you can identify by the visual and my meagre description, please let me know. I'd love to call it by it's name in the title of the piece.6" x 6" x 1.25" / acrylic on canvas / $65 / SOLD

I share your (lack of) tree knowledge, but LOVE this painting. It's my fav of your week away!
If the needles grew all the way around the branch then it was probably a Spruce. If the needles are flat and grow on either side of the branch, it is likely a Balsam Fir and if the needles are very soft then it would be a Tamarack. Now, it also depends on length. How short is short? The needles of all of the above would be less than an inch. There is also a Scots Pine that has needles that are over an inch but would be considered short in comparison to a Red or White PIne. This is my guess, based on the painting and how the branches are rather sparse. I think it could be a Scots Pine.
