I am currently reading Burton on Burton and in it Tim Burton talked about how he would get frustrated in art school with life drawing - that he just couldn't draw the body the way they said it was "supposed" to look. He said one day "something clicked in my brain. I was sitting sketching and I thought, '**** it, I don't care if I can draw or not. I like doing it.' And I swear to God, from one second to the next I had a freedom which I hadn't had before. From that point on, I didn't care if people liked it. There was almost a drug-induced sense of freedom." I loved reading that. Tim Burton can draw! - masterfully in my opinion - but he had a different vision. And he decided to follow it.
My son and I saw the Tim Burton exhibit in Toronto on Sunday and I can't say enough about it. Art lovers and Tim Burton fans will be in heaven. Thanks Tim. Your work is awesome.

Beautiful Frog painting! I loved your Tim Burton story. We saw his exhibit at MOMA and loved it as well. Just his sketches alone are amazingly inspiring.
Love this one! Makes my eyes happy to see that much green!
As a new artist I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Tim through you. That is what this blogging should be all about and I always learn from you. Thanks for that. Fun and adorable green frog. Love the creative composition and colors.
You've done a wonderful job of painting this beautiful frog.
What a great quote to go with a great little (very TB I might add) painting. I started smiling as soon as I saw this frog on my side bar. He jumped right out and I couldn't wait to get here and get a closer look. He fits so perfectly with this post about TB. I envy you seeing his exhibit!
Superbe grenouille, je les aime tant!
Je les intègre souvent dans mes peintures...
Le choix de vos couleur est sublime.
J'ai beaucoup aimé le site de Tim Burton et l'ensemble de son travail.
merci pour ce partage.
Bisous
Kim, this is a great painting, thanks for sharing!
Thanks also for sharing about all the artists that you read about, so cool! I may need to print out his quote to remind me not to get too critical of my own pieces.
Thanks again!
This frog is just too cute for words! I LOVE it! I love that his skin looks all shiney and bright. He's gorgeous :0)
Great quote, Kim. We are our own worst critic. Love your happy looking frog.
This really is a fun painting! I have always liked your slightly graphic and strong images...very nice!
Way COOL!!! Painting and quote! (You see some great exhibits!!)
I love this froggy too. ...and it's one of those paintings: the subject matter and the colors normally maybe they wouldn't work so great, haha. Like if somebody described it, you might go ewww. ****But it's SO wonderful just the way you painting it!!**** (:
