Bowmen swamp

So here is the painting I did yesterday evening. This is a good, large piece: 36" square. More than any other painting I've done, this one put me through my paces. The first half hour it looked great (!) then I lost it. Twenty minutes later - boom - awesome again, only to be ruined and almost painted over a few minutes later. Every quarter hour it went from that deep feeling of being in the zone to frustration and gnashing of teeth. And then at the end of the evening it finally came together. And I got smart and left it alone ; )
Below are close-ups of my favourite bits:

I have been away, and there is so much cool stuff happening on your blog! Mundane challenges, plein air...wow. A really great rendition of the swamp..very abstract. And I agree, getting outside is so awesome...when its not raining.

Kim.... I LOVE IT!!! It is on my wish list! Now I just have to sell all of my 30 little paintings so I can buy it! I bet it is fantastic in person at full scale. Way to go! I'm glad you didn't give up.

AWESOME. The value areas, palette, that exciting foreground (an alligator swimming in there?)... so great! Appeals like crazy to a water baby like me.
