"Small gifts" by Canadian daily painter Kim Rempel - SOLD

Have you ever been given a Dandelion/Creeping Charlie/ Violet bouquet? Did you ever pick dandelions and give them to your Mom? I've given and received many - and honestly love their charm. You may not believe me but I actually like dandelions (except when all of them are in that fluffy stage and look really scraggly).
My Mom once told me a story that shows it's all just a matter of conditioning. She was in a garden center in Texas and saw what appeared to be Crepping Charlie in a pot, *gasp* - for sale! She double-checked with the clerk and yep - it was Creeping Charlie! The clerk said something to the effect of "yeah, they were so pretty, it was a shame that they could be difficult to grow" I guess by now you've figured out that in Canada they're considered a lawn nuisance and don't get ANY love! They infiltrate lawns and people just hate this "weed"! At our house there is a fair bit of it mixed in with our grass and I've just decided to think of them as bonus purple flowers. And hey - together with our dandelions they kind of go with my blue/yellow theme :)

I LOVE the painting! I feel the same way about supposed "weeds". A simple gathering of violets, bluettes and dandelions can create such a pretty little bouquet.

Oh I love Dandelions! Even in their fluffy stage because I love blowing them away.
I used to make flower wreaths with them when I was a little girl. And it is my bunny's favorite green/flower to eat! :) I like including them in my paintings and I don't think of them as a weed...I used to give 'weed' bouquets for my mom and now I'm getting them from my daughters.I appreciate them as much as any other flower and I think plain green lawns just too boring without those little colourful gems. Even Dürer painted weeds and it's one of his most famous work.

And by the way you captured them beautifully Kim!:)

Love it Kim! My sister and I would make mud pies and decorate them with dandelions and clover flowers. Such fun memories. :-)

We did that too! And when I was older I came across a book called Mud Pies and Other Recipes and it was the best : ) Things like geranium-upside-down-mud cake.

Thanks for the comments!

Bisous

Kim, this is so lovely and crisp! I love the petals against the background and the blocks of color there ground the piece beautifully!

So gorgeous Kim!! I love the way it seems to sparkle. :) And orange and blue is like my favorite color combo ever. My boys bring me dandelions as 'flowers' I save them until they're all dried up and I've never had the heart to tell them that they're considered a weed.

I actually love dandelions, Kim. Yes, I've given, and gotten my share. My favorites were from my middle child, Conor, whose motto as a child was "A weed is just a plant growing where you don't want it to!" To him all plants were precious, he hated to see me weed.
I love this as a subject and you handled it so well!
