So here is the (almost) final piece. The stages to get here are shown below. As you can see I completely covered anything that was left of the original painting. Yesterday I was toying with the idea of keeping the greenery from the landscape painting in the top section but decided it needed a more graphic approach. I also changed the lettering on the box around. The box had been sitting in the turned over lid, hence the type was upside down but it confused enough people who were looking at it that I thought I'd better change it. I hope I made the right decisions but it's always a bit of a guessing game! This painting is acrylic and I think is about 18"x24".

Wonderful grouping Kim! Unique presentation of your subject and of course, great technique.
Wow wow wow! I love it! Looks fantastic!
Love this! Love the old box. I think you were correct in turning the type right side up.
Wonderful! Love the changes you made. This was a really tough composition and you nailed it. Gorgeous colors and really good design decisions. Enjoyed seeing this!
Wonderful. Is this going to be your Christmas card. So perfect in every way.

I love it! I think it looks very striking now with the dark background. The colours of the baubles really stand out :)
Great painting Kim - it really reminds me of the ornaments (and their box home) from my childhood - one of those visceral memories! Also really like the 'night' sky and snow ground (?). Very nice.
Great painting, Kim!! Reminds me of when I dig through my Grandma's stuff. I like the changes that you made:)
I love it!
amazing job!
Well done Kim. This is a great one! It makes me smile. I like all your changes and I think the cast shadow will be the icing on the cake.
I like it - this would have been a hard composition for me to work out. Nice job.
Delightful! I know I treasure our old ornaments. It's a trip down memory lane. Love your painter's table too. Doing great work!
